Mark Stone notches first career NHL regular season hat trick

Mark Stone of Winnipeg, Manitoba recorded his first career National Hockey League regular season hat trick on Monday. He accomplished the feat for the Vegas Golden Knights in a 4-1 Golden Knights win over the Nashville Predators at the T-Mobile Arena in Paradise, Nevada. For Stone, who is the Golden Knights captain, he has previously had two postseason hat tricks in the National Hockey League.

Stone opened the scoring at 15:25 of the first period from defenseman Nicolas Hague of Kitchener, Ontario, and Pavel Dorofeyev. He then put the Golden Knights up 2-0 with the game-winning goal from Chandler Stephenson of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and Dorofeyev at 1:11 of the second period. Stone then scored from Stephenson with 24 seconds left in the second period to put the Golden Knights up 3-1.

Two Canadians scored for the Golden Knights on Monday. The other Canadian goal scorer on Vegas was Jonathan Marchessault of Cap-Rouge, Quebec. Stone was one of two Canadians with a multi-point game for the Golden Knights. The other was Stephenson with two assists.

In 2023-24, Stone has 15 goals and 29 assists for 44 points in 44 games. He is a +1 with 20 penalty minutes, 13 power-play points, three shorthanded points, five game-winning goals, 26 blocked shots, 21 hits, 49 takeaways, and 22 giveaways.

Stone’s first career postseason hat trick came on April 14, 2019 in a 6-3 Golden Knights win over the San Jose Sharks. It was game three of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Stone’s second career postseason hat trick came on June 13, 2023 in game five of the Stanley Cup Finals. The Golden Knights beat the Florida Panthers 9-3.

With the win, the Golden Knights improved to a record of 25 wins, 14 regulation losses, and five losses in extra time. They have 55 points and are in second place in the Pacific Division.
