Mark Scheifele of Kitchener, Ontario notched his third career National Hockey League hat trick on Thursday. Scheifele scored thrice in a 5-1 Winnipeg Jets over the Ottawa Senators at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.
Scheifele scored Winnipeg’s first goal of the game which tied the game at one goal apiece at 16:35 of the first period. Kyle Connor and Patrik Laine picked up the assists. Scheifele then scored the game winning goal at 17:46 of the first period from Neal Pionk and Patrik Laine which put Winnipeg up 2-1.
Scheifele then closed out the scoring with 1:33 left in the third period which put Winnipeg up 5-1. Logan Shaw of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia and Josh Morrissey of Calgary, Alberta picked up the assists on Scheifele’s hat trick marker.
All three of Scheifele’s goals came on the power play. Scheifele actually had a four point game as he assisted on a goal by Nikolaj Ehlers, which put the Jets up 4-1 at 5:54 of the second period.
In 62 games, Scheifele has 26 goals, 39 assists, 65 points and is a -3. He has 45 penalty minutes, 19 power play points, six game winning goals, 151 shots on goal, 526 faceoff wins, 4 blocked shots, 33 hits, 49 takeaways and 43 giveaways.
The Jets are currently fourth in the Central Division and seventh in the Western Conference. They have a record of 32 wins, 25 regulation losses and five losses in extra time for 69 points.
