Jordan Binnington of Richmond Hill, Ontario recorded his eighth shutout of his National Hockey League career on Thursday. Binnington made 14 saves as the St. Louis Blues beat the Arizona Coyotes 1-0 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
Binnington made eight saves in the first period, four saves in the second period and only two saves in the third period. In a remarkably stingy defensive effort by the Blues organization, St. Louis limited Arizona to only six shots in the final 40 minutes. Binnington now has two shutouts in his last two games. On Tuesday, he only had to make 17 saves in the Blues 3-0 win over the New Jersey Devils.
Taylor Hall of Calgary, Alberta led the Coyotes in shots on goal with four. The Blues dominated the play as they outshot the Coyotes 46-14, despite only beating Arizona by a single goal. St. Louis’s goal came at exactly the 12 minute mark of the third period. Ryan O’Reilly of Clinton, Ontario scored from Brayden Schenn of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Colton Parayko of St. Albert, Alberta in an all-Canadian goal.
Binnington had one other shutout this season. It came in a 5-0 Blues win over the Calgary Flames on November 21. In 2019-20, Binnington has played in 44 games and has a record of 26 wins, 11 regulation losses, seven losses in extra time, a goals against average of 2.60, save percentage of .911 and three shutouts.
St. Louis currently leads the Western Conference with 78 points. They have two more points than the second place Dallas Stars. St. Louis is currently at 34 wins, 17 regulation losses and 10 losses in extra time.
