
Mark Scheifele of Kitchener, Ontario notched his 10th career National Hockey League hat trick on Monday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-2 Winnipeg Jets win over the Toronto Maple Leafs at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario.
All three of Scheifele’s goals came in the third period. He put the Jets up 3-1 at 3:27 of the third period with the game-winning goal from Gabriel Vilardi of Kingston, Ontario and Kyle Connor. Scheifele then put the Jets up 4-1 from Vilardi and defenseman Josh Morrissey of Calgary, Alberta at 11:57 of the third period with an all-Canadian goal. Scheifele then closed the scoring into an empty net from Connor with 21 seconds left in the third period.
This was Scheifele’s second hat trick of the season. He also scored thrice in a 6-3 Jets win over the Florida Panthers on November 19.
In 36 games this season, Scheifele scored 21 goals and had 21 assists for 42 points. He was a +4 with 23 penalty minutes, 14 power-play points, six game-winning goals, 84 shots on goal, 263 faceoff wins, 30 blocked shots, 31 hits, 13 takeaways, and 48 giveaways.
With the win, the Jets improve to a record of 25 wins, 10 regulation losses and one loss in extra time for 51 points overall. They have the most points in the NHL and have two more points than the Vegas Golden Knights and New Jersey Devils.
