Lewis Irving of Quebec City, Quebec won a World Cup aerials bronze medal on Sunday from Krasnoyarsk, Russia. It was Irving’s third World Cup medal of his career and second of the season.

Irving posted a third place score of 116.29 points. Noe Roth of Switzerland won the gold medal with a score of 127.4 points. Pavel Krotov of Russia won the silver medal with 124.43 points.

Irving reached the podium by 1.79 points. Maxim Burov of Russia was in fourth place with 114.50 points.

There is no doubt that Irving had an excellent ending to the 2019-20 World Cup aerials season. In two of the final three competitions, Irving reached the podium. He also won silver in Minsk, Belarus on February 22. Irving’s other career medal came on December 16, 2017 when he won bronze in Secret Garden, China.

Irving finished fifth in the World Cup aerials standings this season with 267 points. Roth was the leader with 386 points.

Over the last decade, Canadian mogulists have had significantly more success than Canadian aerialists. However, Irving seems to have a very bright future ahead of him at the age of 24. The bronze medal Irving achieved in Russia, should give him confidence as he prepares for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
