Two-time Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Mark McMorris of Regina, Saskatchewan is now in the Winter X Games record books. On Saturday, McMorris placed first in the men’s big air snowboarding competition at the Winter X Games Norway in Oslo. With the first place finish, McMorris set the record for the most gold medals at a Winter X Games ever with 19. McMorris broke the record previously set by Shaun White of the United States, who had 18 Winter X Games gold medals.

McMorris’s gold medal was also memorable as it was part of a Canadian sweep of the men’s big air snowboarding medals. Canadian Olympic silver medalist Maxence Parrot of Cowansville, Quebec won the silver medal and Darcy Sharpe of Calgary, Alberta won the bronze medal.

McMorris and Parrot were not done recording Canadian hardware. On Sunday, they each reached the podium in the men’s slopestyle snowboarding event. Parrot won gold and McMorris won silver.

Team Canada won three other medals at the Winter X Games in Oslo this past weekend. Canadian Olympic silver medalist Laurie Blouin of Quebec City, Quebec won the bronze medal in women’s big air snowboarding, Megan Oldham of Parry Sound, Ontario won the gold medal in women’s big air skiing and Brooke Voigt of Fort McMurray, Alberta on the bronze medal in women’s slopestyle snowboarding.

McMorris won the bronze medal in men’s slopestyle snowboarding at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. Parrot won the silver medal in men’s slopestyle snowboarding at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. Blouin won the silver medal for Canada in women’s slopestyle snowboarding at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. The medals for Blouin, Oldham, Voigt, McMorris, Sharpe and Parrot will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
