Laval Rouge et Or win 2022 Vanier Cup

For the 11th time in the history of the school, the Laval University Rouge et Or has won the Vanier Cup. After previously winning in 1999, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2018, the Rouge et Or, defeated the University of Saskatchewan Huskies 30-24 at Western Alumni Stadium in London, Ontario.

The Rouge et Or star on Saturday was wide receiver Kevin Mital of Saint-Hubert, Quebec. The Hec Crighton Trophy winner became only the second player ever to win the Hec Crighton Trophy (the Canadian University Sport most valuable player) and the Ted Morris Trophy (the Vanier Cup most valuable player) in the same year according to usports.ca. The first player to accomplish the feat was also a wide receiver as Don Blair of Ottawa, Ontario won the Hec Crighton Trophy and Ted Morris Trophy while representing the University of Calgary Dinos in 1995.

In the 2022 Vanier Cup final, Mital had 142 receiving yards. He also had a one-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Dallaire of Saint-Georges, Quebec early in the fourth quarter to put the Rouge et Or up 27-17 at the time. It was also a strong game offensively for Rouge et Or quarterback Arnaud Desjardins of Montreal, Quebec, who had 397 passing yards, the fourth most passing yards in a single game in Vanier Cup history. Another Rouge et Or star was wide receiver Antoine Dansereau-Leclerc of Longueuil, Quebec. who had 119 receiving yards.

Meanwhile on defense, Charles-Alexandre Jacques of Quebec City, Quebec won the Bruce Coulter Award, presented to the best defensive player in the Vanier Cup. Jacques had 5.5 tackles.
