Kerri Einarson wins 2022 Masters title

Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Manitoba won her fifth World Curling Tour Grand Slam event on Sunday. In the final of the 2022 Masters from Oakville, Ontario, Team Einarson beat Team Homan, skipped by Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario, 6-5 in nine ends.

Einarson was victorious despite giving up three points to Homan in the fifth end. At the time, Homan took a 4-3 lead. Einarson bounced back with two points in the sixth end to take a 5-4 lead. Homan tied it in the eighth, before Einarson won it in the ninth.

Einarson was perfect over the week with a record of seven wins and zero losses. While in Pool A action, she beat Eun-jung Kim of South Korea 8-6 in nine ends, Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, Manitoba 8-5, Clancy Grandy of Vancouver, British Columbia 8-4, and Satsuki Fujisawa of Japan 8-5. In the quarterfinals, Einarson beat Chelsea Carey of Regina, Saskatchewan 5-4, and then Tabitha Peterson of the United States 8-3 in the semifinals.

This was the third World Curling Tour Grand Slam event of the season. Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland won the National in North Bay, Ontario, and Homan won the Tour Challenge in Grande Prairie, Alberta. Einarson’s four previous Grand Slam titles came at the 2016 National in Ottawa, Ontario, the 2019 Players’ Championship in Toronto, Ontario, the 2021 Players’ Championship in Calgary, Alberta, and the 2022 Champions Cup in Olds, Alberta.
