Katie Vincent wins World Cup canoe sprint silver in Czech Republic

Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ontario won a silver medal in a Women’s World Cup C1-200 metre canoeing event in Racice, Czech Republic on Sunday. For Vincent, who won the bronze medal in the Women’s C2-500 metre canoeing event at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021, it was her 20th career World Cup medal in an event with Olympic status, in her fabulous canoeing career.

Vincent posted a time of 45.19 seconds. She reached the podium by 0.33 seconds over Maria Corbera of Spain, who had a fourth place time of 45.52 seconds. Yarisleidis Duboys of Cuba won the gold medal with a time of 45.08 seconds. It was interesting that Vincent tied for silver with Wenjun Lin of China.

This was the first World Cup of the season for Vincent. There are only two World Cup canoeing events this year. The next and last one will be in Poznan, Poland from May 26-29.

The 2022 World Sprint Canoeing Championships will take place in Canada this year. They will be in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia from August 3-7, 2022. Speaking of the World Championship, Vincent won the gold medal in the C1-200 metres last year in Copenhagen, Denmark. The silver medal in Racice will give Vincent confidence as she prepares for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
