Jordan Binnington records 18th NHL career shutout

Jordan Binnington of Richmond Hill, Ontario notched his 18th National Hockey League career shutout on Friday. He accomplished the feat in a 4-0 St. Louis Blues win over the Ottawa Senators at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.

Binnington made 20 saves for the shutout. He made six saves in the first period, seven saves in the second period, and seven saves in the third period. Drake Batherson of New Minas, Nova Scotia, Brady Tkachuk and Shane Pinto all led Ottawa with three shots on goal.

Blues captain Brayden Schenn of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan scored the game-winning goal for the Blues at 7:26 of the first period from Dylan Holloway of Calgary, Alberta. Brandon Saad scored the other three goals for St. Louis. Two more Canadians had an assist. They were Robert Thomas of Aurora, Ontario and defenseman Colton Parayko of St. Albert, Alberta.

This season, Binnington has a record of 11 wins, 14 regulation losses, and three losses in extra time. He has three shutouts, a goals against average of 2.79 and a save percentage of .899. Binnington’s first shutout of the season came on November 27 in a 3-0 Blues win over the New Jersey Devils. Binnington’s second shutout of the season came on December 23 in a 4-0 Blues win over the Detroit Red Wings.

All of Binnington’s 18 shutouts have been with the Blues. With the win, St. Louis improves to a record of 19 wins, 17 regulation losses and four losses in extra time for 42 points. They are two points back of the Vancouver Canucks for a playoff spot.
