St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington of Richmond Hill, Ontario recorded his 16th National Hockey League shutout on Wednesday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-0 Blues win over the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
Binnington made 31 saves. He had seven saves in the first period, 11 saves in the second period, and 13 saves in the third period.
From an offensive perspective, Dylan Holloway of Calgary, Alberta had a multi-point game as he scored twice. Meanwhile, Robert Thomas of Aurora, Ontario had the game-winning goal at the nine second mark in the first period. This was the second fastest game-winning goal in NHL history. Pavel Buchnevich and Justin Faulk had the assists. The NHL record for the fastest game-winning goal belongs to Charlie Conacher of Toronto, Ontario, who scored seven seconds into the game from Busher Jackson of Toronto, Ontario in a 6-0 Toronto Maple Leafs win over the Boston Bruins on February 6, 1932.
Binnington has a record of seven wins, nine regulation losses, and one loss in extra time this season. This was his first shutout of the season. Binnington also has a goals against average of 2.86 and a save percentage of .898.
With the win, the Blues improved to a record of 11 wins, 12 regulation losses, and one loss in extra time for 23 points. They are two points back of the Vancouver Canucks for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
