Canadian Olympic gold medalist Jennifer Jones of Winnipeg, Manitoba is planning to retire from women’s curling according to Donna Spencer of the Canadian Press on Tuesday. Now it should be noted that Jones is not stepping away from curling completely as she still plans to play mixed doubles curling with her husband, Brent Laing.

Jones won the Olympic gold medal for Canada as the skip in women’s curling at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. In the gold medal game, Canada defeated Sweden 6-3, as Jones curled 88%. It was a perfect Olympic women’s curling tournament for the Canadian team as they won 11 games.

Jones still plans to complete the 2024 curling season. Starting Friday, she will be skipping one of the four wildcard teams at the 2024 Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Calgary. It will be Jones’s 18th Canadian Women’s National Championship appearance.

As a skip, Jones won six Scotties Tournament of Hearts. The titles came in 2005 in St. John’s, Newfoundland, in 2008 in Regina, Saskatchewan, in 2009 in Victoria, British Columbia, in 2010 in Sault. Ste. Marie, Ontario, in 2015 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and in 2018 in Penticton, British Columbia. Jones also won two gold medals at the Women’s World Curling Championship. Those titles came in 2008 in Vernon, British Columbia, and in 2018 in North Bay, Ontario.

Finally at the Grand Slam of Curling level, Jones has 17 Grand Slam titles. She won three Autumn Gold titles (2008, 2010 and 2015), one Colonial Square title (2014), one Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries title (2014), one Sobeys Slam title (2011), one Wayden Transportation title (2009), one Tour Challenge title (2024), one National title (2018), one Masters title (2018), six Players’ Championship titles (2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2017), and one Champions Cup title (2016).
