Jake DeBrusk records second career NHL hat trick

Vancouver Canucks left winger Jake DeBrusk of Edmonton, Alberta recorded his second career National Hockey League hat trick on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in a 5-4 Canucks overtime win over the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

DeBrusk’s first goal tied the game at one at the 23 second mark of the second period from Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes on the power play. At the time, the Canucks actually had a two-man advantage. DeBrusk then put the Canucks up 2-1 on the power play just 43 seconds later. Hughes and Brock Boeser had the assists. DeBrusk then scored the overtime winner from Pettersson and Hughes with one minute left in the extra period.

In 2024-25, DeBrusk has 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points in 23 games. He is a +7 with 10 penalty minutes, six power-play points, two game-winning goals, 47 shots on goal, one faceoff win, 13 blocked shots, 39 hits, seven takeaways, and 15 giveaways. DeBrusk’s other game-winning goal this season came on November 26 in a 2-0 Canucks win over the Boston Bruins. DeBrusk scored from Hughes and Conor Garland at 5:53 of the second period to open the scoring on the power-play. DeBrusk’s faceoff win came in a 6-3 Canucks win over the Chicago Blackhawks on October 22.

DeBrusk’s first career hat trick came on February 28, 2022 in a 7-0 Bruins win over the Los Angeles Kings. With the win on Sunday, the Canucks improved to a record of 13 wins, seven regulation losses, and three losses in extra time for 29 points. They are in third place in the Pacific Division, and are four points back of the first place Vegas Golden Knights.
