Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario has won her second LPGA event of the 2017 season. At the McKayson New Zealand’s Women’s Open in Ardmore, New Zealand that completed on Monday. Henderson shot a four round score of -17 to beat her closest competitor, Jing Yan of China by five strokes.
Henderson got off to a wonderful start in the tournament as she went seven under par after the first round. She then shot two under par in the second round, five under par in the third round and three under par in the fourth round.
This was also Henderson’s first LPGA win outside the United States. Of her four prior wins, two came in Portland, and her other victories came in Michigan and Washington state. It was Henderson’s second win of the year as she previously won the Meijer LPGA Classic in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 18.
Henderson is now in fourth place on the LPGA money list behind Sung Hyun Park and So Yeon Ryu of South Korea and Lexi Thompson of the United States. Henderson has now won $1,356,833 this season. She has also moved from 12th to 10th in the Rolex World Rankings. The victory in New Zealand will give Henderson confidence as she prepares for future major events on the LPGA Tour and the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
