Four Canadians record touchdowns for winning teams in Week 14 of 2021 CFL season

Four Canadians recorded touchdowns for winning teams in the 14th week of the 2021 Canadian Football League regular season. They were Hamilton Tiger-Cats running back Sean Thomas-Erlington of Montreal, Quebec, Saskatchewan Roughriders Brayden Lenius of Regina, Saskatchewan, Toronto Argonauts wide receiver Kurleigh Gittens Jr. of Ottawa, Ontario, and Winnipeg Blue Bombers wide receiver Nic Demski of Winnipeg, Manitoba. In fact, a Canadian recorded a touchdown on a winning team in all four games this weekend.

Thomas-Erlington had a four-yard touchdown run with eight minutes left in the fourth quarter on Friday in Hamilton’s 26-18 win over the British Columbia Lions. At the time Hamilton extended its lead from 19-12 to 25-12. Thomas-Erlington had three rushes for 14 yards. On the season, he now has 58 rushes for 298 yards and four touchdowns, along with 18 catches for 126 yards and another major score. With the win, Hamilton improved to a record of seven wins and five losses and are second in the East Division.

Lenius recorded Saskatchewan’s only touchdown of the game in a 19-17 win over the Edmonton Elks on Friday. It came on a 22-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Cody Fajardo with one minute and 51 seconds left in the second quarter to put the Roughriders up 10-3 at the time. Lenius had three catches for 39 yards. On the season, he has 33 catches for 437 yards and four touchdowns. With the win, the Roughriders improved to a record of eight wins and four losses.

Gittens Jr. also had Toronto’s only touchdown in a 23-20 win over the Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday. He caught a 12-yard touchdown catch from McLeod Bethel-Thompson which put the Argonauts within two points at the time, as the score was 20-18 Ottawa. The Argonauts then executed a two-point conversion, and then won the game on a 34-yard field goal by Boris Bede. Gittens Jr. had seven catches for 58 yards. On the season, he now has 56 catches for 533 yards and three touchdowns. With the win, the Argonauts are in first place in the East Division with a record of eight wins and four losses.

Demski had four catches for 41 yards and one touchdown in a 31-21 Winnipeg win over the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday. He caught a 10-yard touchdown catch from Blue Bombers starting quarterback Zach Collaros to put Winnipeg up 6-0 at the time. Demski had four catches for 41 yards. On the season, he has 43 catches for 633 yards and four touchdowns. The Blue Bombers meanwhile have the best record in the CFL at 11 wins and one loss.
