Four Canadians in contention at the 2023 Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas

It was a memorable Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada. Heading into Sunday’s final round of the Shriners Children’s Open, there are four Canadians in contention–significant for a single PGA event.

Adam Hadwin of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan is the co-leader at -15. Taylor Pendrith of Richmond Hill, Ontario is in fourth place at -14. Adam Svensson of Surrey, British Columbia is in seventh place at -13. Nick Taylor of Winnipeg, Manitoba is in 11th place at -12.

Hadwin had a first round score of four-under-par 67, second round score of three-under-par 68, and a third round score of eight-under-par 63. In the first round, Hadwin had four birdies, one eagle and two bogeys. He posted a score of two on the par four 15th, and had birdies on the first, fourth, ninth, and 13th holes, along with bogeys on the seventh and 17th holes. In the second round, Hadwin had six birdies and three bogeys. He birdied the third, fifth, ninth, 13th, 16th and 18th holes, and bogeyed the sixth, 15th, and 17th holes. In the third round, Hadwin had eight birdies and zero bogeys. He birdied the first, fifth, sixth, ninth, 10th, 14th, 16th and 17th holes.

Pendrith had a first round score of two-under-par 69, followed by back-to-back rounds of six-under-par 65. In the first round, Pendrith had four birdies and two bogeys. He birdied the second, ninth, and 13th holes, and 15th holes, and bogeyed the fifth and 14th holes. In the second round, Pendrith had six birdies and zero bogeys. He birdied the fourth, seventh, ninth, 11th, 13th and 17th holes. In the third round, Pendrith had seven birdies and one bogey. He birdied the second, sixth, 11th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th holes, and bogeyed the fifth hole.

Svensson had a first round score of one-under-par 70, a second round score of six-under-par 65, and a third round score of six-under-par 65. In the first round, he had one eagle, three birdies and four bogeys. Svensson eagled the 16th hole, birdied the fourth, ninth and 13th holes, and bogeyed the first, third, 17th and 18th holes. In the second round, he had six birdies and zero bogeys. Svensson birdied the fourth, sixth, 10th, 13th, 15th and 16th holes. In the third round, he had one eagle, five birdies and one bogey. Svensson had an eagle on the 16th hole, birdies on the sixth, seventh, eighth, 11th and 15th holes, and bogey on the second hole.

Taylor had a third round score of two-under-par 69. He had six birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey. Taylor birdied the sixth, ninth, 10th, 11th, 14th and 15th holes, bogeyed the second and eighth holes, and double bogeyed the 17th hole.

Hadwin is tied for the lead at -15 with Lanto Griffin of the United States and Joo-hyung Kim of South Korea. Pendrith is tied for fourth with American Vince Whaley and South Korean K.H. Lee. Svensson is tied for seventh with American Isaiah Salinda and J.T. Poston, and England’s Callum Tarren. Taylor is tied for 11th with Americans Joel Dahmen, Ryan Moore, Beau Hossler, and Chesson Hadley, Australia’s Cam Davis, and Sweden’s Alex Noren.
