Flyers name Daniel Briere general manager

According to Mike Stephens of The Hockey News on Friday, the Philadelphia Flyers have named Daniel Briere as their interim general manager. Briere of Gatineau, Quebec takes over from Chuck Fletcher of Montreal, Quebec, who was relieved of his duties.

Briere has worked in the Flyers since 2017. He worked for the Maine Mariners, the Flyers’ farm team in the American Hockey League from 2017 to 2021. Then last season and into this season, Briere was the Flyers’s assistant general manager.

From 1997 to 2015, Briere played 17 NHL seasons as a center with the Phoenix Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres, Montreal Canadiens and Colorado Avalanche. In 973 regular season games, he had 307 goals and 389 assists for 696 points. He was a -24 with 744 penalty minutes, 256 power-play points, two shorthanded points, 43 game-winning goals and 2174 shots on goal.

While with the Flyers, Briere played six seasons from 2007 to 2013. In 364 games, he had 124 goals and 159 assists for 283 points. Briere was a -13 with 331 penalty minutes, 102 power-play points, 14 game-winning goals, one shorthanded point, and 936 shots on goal.

The Flyers this season have a record of 24 wins, 30 regulation losses, and 11 losses in extra time for 59 points. They are in seventh place in the Metropolitan Division with 59 points. Only the Montreal Canadiens with 58 points and Columbus Blue Jackets with 47 points have fewer points than the Flyers in the Eastern Conference.
