
Evander Kane of Vancouver, British Columbia recorded his sixth career National Hockey League hat trick and eighth hat trick overall (two hat tricks have come in the Stanley Cup Playoffs) on Saturday as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Seattle Kraken 6-4. Kane notched the first goal in each period in the game.
Kane opened the scoring on an all-Canadian goal from Zach Hyman of Toronto, Ontario and Darnell Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario at the 1:35 mark of the first period. He then scored from Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario and Mattias Ekholm at the 43 second mark of the second period to put the Oilers up 3-1. Kane then put the Oilers up 5-3 with a game-winning goal from Brett Kulak of Edmonton, Alberta and Leon Draisaitl at 10:20 of the third period.
Kane was one of three Canadians to have a multi-point game. McDavid had one goal and two assists for three points and Hyman had one goal and one assist for two points.
On the season, Kane has 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points in 29 games. He is a -2 with 41 penalty minutes, two power-play points, two shorthanded points, 99 shots on goal, nine faceoff wins, 11 blocked shots, 77 hits, 11 takeaways, and 19 giveaways. Kane’s two shorthanded points came in Oilers wins. The first was a shorthanded goal from Kulak into an empty net at 17:33 of the third period on February 7 in a 5-2 Oilers win over the Detroit Red Wings. The second was a shorthanded assist on a goal by Derek Ryan in a 6-3 Oilers win over the Ottawa Senators on February 11.
With the win, the Oilers improve to a record of 39 wins, 23 regulation losses and eight losses in extra time for 86 points. They are in third place in the Pacific Division, and four points back of the Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings.
