Cleveland Guardians relief pitcher Erik Sabrowski of Edmonton, Alberta recorded his first career Major League Baseball postseason victory on Thursday. He accomplished the feat in a 9-5 Guardians win over the Chicago White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois.
This was an extremely important game for the Guardians. That is because they were facing elimination. With a loss, the Guardians would have been out and the White Sox would have advanced to the American League Championship Series against the Tampa Bay Rays. Now, the Guardians have tied the best out of five American League Divisional Championship Series at two games apiece with a fifth and deciding game on Saturday night in Cleveland.
On Thursday, Sabrowski came into the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Guardians trailing the White Sox 4-3. With two out, Sabrowski struck out Braden Montgomery. Then after a six run inning by the Guardians in the top of the sixth inning, Sabrowski forced Colson Montgomery to pop up and Chase Meidroth to ground out.
Sabrowski had spectacular control in game four. He threw 17 pitches and had 13 strikes. Sabrowski was one of two Canadian relievers to pitch for the Guardians as Cade Smith of Abbotsford, British Columbia threw the eighth inning.
