Emerance Maschmeyer records first career PWHL shutout

Canadian Olympic gold medalist Emerance Maschmeyer of Bruderheim, Alberta recorded her second career Professional Women’s Hockey League shutout on Wednesday. Maschmeyer, who won gold for Canada in women’s hockey at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, made 26 saves in a 3-0 Ottawa win over New York at the Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Maschmeyer made five saves in the first period, 11 saves in the second period, and 10 saves in the third period. Alex Carpenter, daughter of former National Hockey League All-Star and Stanley Cup champion Bobby Carpenter, led New York with four shots on goal.

Offensively for Ottawa, three Canadians scored. They were Daryl Watts of Toronto, Ontario, and Canadian Olympic gold medalists Brianne Jenner of Oakville, Ontario and Emily Clark of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Jenner also led Ottawa in scoring with two points as she had one goal and one assist. Clark and Jenner won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, while Jenner also won a gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.

On the season, Maschmeyer has a record of six wins, six regulation losses, and four losses in extra time, with one shutout, and a goals against average of 2.28 and a save percentage of .914. Ottawa is currently in fourth place in the PWHL with 24 points. They have a record of six wins, six regulation losses, and six losses in extra time for 24 points.
