Darren Moulding of Lacombe, Alberta is skipping a new curling team based out of Northern Ontario according to Devin Heroux of CBC Sports on Friday. Moulding, who was born in Calgary, Alberta, won the 2021 Tim Hortons Brier with skip Brendan Bottcher at the Markin MacPhail Centre in Calgary.
Moulding will be joined by fourth player Tanner Horgan of Sudbury, Ontario, Tanner’s brother Jacob Horgan of Sudbury (the second), and lead Colin Hodgson of Red Lake, Ontario. In order for this team to eligible to represent Northern Ontario, three of the four curlers needed to have a connection to the region. So Hodgson moved from Winnipeg to Red Lake. Like Moulding, Hodgson is born in Alberta, as he is initially from Edmonton.
Tanner Horgan is best known as being the brother of Tracy Fleury, the two-time grand slam champion, and five-time Scotties representative. Fleury made curling headlines earlier this season when she announced her plans to team up with Rachel Homan of Ottawa, Ontario.
Hodgson had been to the Brier five times alongside Reid Carruthers of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Carruthers has a new team as well in 2022-23, as he has teamed up with Jason Gunnlaugson, Derek Samagalski and Connor Njegovan. Hodgson and Carruthers had been curling together since 2014.
