It was a magical game for Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario on Thursday. McDavid recorded a career high for most points in a game with six, and notched his sixth career hat trick as the Edmonton Oilers defeated the Colorado Avalanche 6-2 on Thursday night at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta.
McDavid had two assists on two goals by Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of Burnaby, British Columbia and another assist on the Oilers game winning goal by Zack Kassian of Windsor, Ontario at 12:42 of the first period.
All three of the McDavid’s goals came on the power play. The first came at 12:14 of the first period from James Neal of Whitby, Ontario and Oscar Klefbom, which put the Oilers up 2-1. The second goal came at 15:51 of the first period from Draisaitl and Klefbom, which put the Oilers up 4-1. Then McDavid’s hat trick marker came at 8:32 of the second period from Draisaitl and Klefbom again, which put the Oilers up 5-1.
This was McDavid’s second hat trick this season. His first came in a 6-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks on November 10. McDavid’s other hat tricks came in a 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars on November 19, 2016, in a 3-0 win over the Calgary Flames on October 4, 2017, in a 6-2 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on February 5, 2018 and in a 4-2 win over the Avalanche on February 18, 2018. In the Oilers win over the Lightning, McDavid actually scored four goals.
McDavid now has 14 goals and 23 assists for 37 points in 21 games with the Oilers in 2019-20. He is a +7 with 12 penalty minutes, 17 power play points, two game winning goals, 71 shots on goal, 85 faceoff wins, eight blocked shots, eight hits, 16 takeaways and 24 giveaways.
The Oilers currently lead the Pacific Division with 28 points. They have a record of 13 wins, six regulation losses and two losses in extra time. The Oilers have a four point lead on the second place Arizona Coyotes.
