Connor McDavid named NHL player of the month for March

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid of Richmond Hill, Ontario was named the National Hockey League player of the month for March on Saturday. In 15 games, he had 11 goals and 18 assists for 29 points. This was the third time this season that McDavid has been named the Player of the Month. He was also honoured in October and February.

McDavid was also a +6 with 12 penalty minutes, 13 power-play points, one shorthanded point, two game-winning goals, 50 shots on goal, 17 hits, six blocked shots, and 107 faceoff wins. His shorthanded point was an unassisted shorthanded breakaway goal at 3:53 of the third period in a 2-0 Oilers win over the Los Angeles Kings on March 30. Earlier in the month, McDavid had the game-winning goal for the Oilers from Warren Foegele of Markham, Ontario and Mattias Ekholm in a 3-2 Oilers win over the Buffalo Sabres on March 6, and then had another game-winning goal in overtime from Leon Draisaitl in a 4-3 Oilers win over the Arizona Coyotes on March 22.

McDavid is having the best season of his NHL Hall of Fame career. He leads the league with 62 goals, 84 assists, 146 points and 10 game-winning goals. McDavid now has 843 points (301 goals and 542 assists) in 564 NHL regular season career games over the last eight seasons.
