Corey Conners of Listowel, Ontario is in second place after the second round of the 2023 Valero Texas Open in San Antonio, Texas. Conners is currently at -8, and three strokes back of Patrick Rodgers of Avon, Indiana, who is at -11.
Conners had a marvelous first round where he had eight birdies. He birdied the fifth, eighth, ninth, 10th, 14th, 15th, 17th, and 18th holes. In the second round, Conners had four birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey. He birdied the second, eighth, 14th, and 18th holes, bogeyed the 13th and 17th holes, and had a double bogey on the 16th hole.
It should be noted that Conners has had great success at the Valero Texas Open. He in fact won the 2019 title where he posted a four round score of -20 and beat American Charley Hoffman by two strokes. It was Conners’s only PGA Tour title to date. Rodgers meanwhile has not won on the PGA Tour, but does have a title at the web.com tour. That came at the 2015 Pacific Rubiales Colombia Championship.
The Valero Texas Open is significant because it is the last event before the first major of the year. The 2023 Masters Championship commences on Thursday from Augusta, Georgia.
