Canadians Nick Ritchie and Brock McGinn traded on NHL trade deadline day

Canadians Nick Ritchie of Orangeville, Ontario and Brock McGinn of Fergus, Ontario were both traded on Friday, the final day of the 2023 National Hockey League trade deadline. Ritchie was traded from the Arizona Coyotes to the Calgary Flames with defenseman Troy Stecher of Richmond, British Columbia for his brother Brett Ritchie of Orangeville, Ontario, and defenseman Connor Mackey. McGinn was traded from the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Anaheim Ducks with a third round draft pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft for defenseman Dmitry Kuilkov.

Nick Ritchie, a left winger, is joining his fifth team as he previously played with the Anaheim Ducks (2015 to 2020), the Boston Bruins (2020 to 2021), Toronto Maple Leafs (2021 to 2022), and Coyotes (2022-23). In 58 games, he had nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points. Ritchie was a -15 with 43 penalty minutes, 10 power-play points, two game-winning goals, 87 shots on goal, two faceoff wins, 25 blocked shots, 171 hits, five takeaways, and 17 giveaways.

Ritchie’s first game-winning goal this season came on November 1 in a 3-1 Coyotes win over the Florida Panthers. Ritchie scored from Clayton Keller and J.J. Moser at 8:55 on the power-play which put Arizona up 2-1 at the time. Ritchie had his second game-winning goal this season on November 5 in a 3-2 Arizona win over the Washington Capitals. He scored from Barrett Hayton of Peterborough, Ontario and Clayton Keller with 36 seconds left in the third period to break a 2-2 tie.

McGinn, a left winger, is joining his third team as he was previously with the Carolina Hurricanes (2015 to 2021), and the Penguins (2021 to 2023). In 60 games this season with the Penguins, McGinn had 10 goals and six assists for 16 points. He had 21 penalty minutes, two shorthanded points, three game-winning goals, 77 shots on goal, four faceoff wins, 37 blocked shots, 75 hits, 21 takeaways and 15 giveaways. McGinn’s three game-winning goals came in a 4-1 Pittsburgh win over the Washington Capitals on November 9, in a 4-2 Pittsburgh win over the Toronto Maple Leafs on November 11, and in a 5-3 Pittsburgh win over the Chicago Blackhawks on November 20.
