Canadian receivers shine as Blue Bombers clobber the Roughriders

Two Canadian wide receivers found the end zone on Saturday as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers clobbered the Saskatchewan Roughriders 54-20. Nic Demski of Winnipeg, Manitoba had eight catches for 71 yards and two touchdowns and Brendon O’Leary-Orange of Toronto, Ontario had two catches for 33 yards and one touchdown.

Demski’s first touchdown catch was for 16 yards from quarterback Zach Collaros and put the Blue Bombers 6-0 at 5:32 of the first quarter. Demski then had an 18 yard touchdown catch from Collaros with 3:45 left in the second quarter and put the Blue Bombers up 19-7. O’Leary-Orange’s touchdown catch was from 10 yards with 23 seconds left in the third quarter and put the Blue Bombers up 36-20.

On the season, Demski now has 43 catches for 483 yards and six touchdowns. O’Leary-Orange meanwhile had his first career Canadian Football League touchdown. He now has five catches for 55 yards.

The Blue Bombers continue to play at a high tempo. They have a record of 12 wins and one loss. However, Winnipeg did not score the most points this past weekend. The Calgary Stampeders had 56 points in a 56-28 win over the Edmonton Elks.

Meanwhile, Kurleigh Gittens Jr. of Ottawa, Ontario had 12 catches for 161 yards and a touchdown as the Toronto Argonauts beat the Ottawa Redblacks 24-19. The Argonauts lead the East Division with a record of seven wins and five losses.
