Aaron Brown wins medals in men’s 100m and 200m in Diamond League Final

Aaron Brown of Toronto, Ontario had a terrific day on the track at the 2022 Diamond League Final in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday. He came away with two medals. Brown won a bronze medal in the men’s 100 metres and a silver in the men’s 200 metres. Meanwhile, Marco Arop of Edmonton, Alberta won the silver medal in the men’s 800 metres.

In the men’s 100 metres, Brown posted a seasonal best time of 10.06 seconds. He reached the podium by one one-hundredth of a second over Akani Simbine of South Africa, who had a time of 10.07 seconds. Trayvon Bromell of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 9.94 seconds. Yohan Blake of Jamaica won the silver medal with a time of 10.05 seconds.

In the men’s 200 metres, Brown had a seasonal best time of 20.02 seconds. Noah Lyles of the United States won the gold medal with a time of 19.52 seconds. Alexander Ogando of the Dominican Republic won the bronze medal with a time of 20.02 seconds. Brown reached the podium by 0.18 seconds over Erriyon Knighton of the United States, who had a time of 20.2 seconds.

In the men’s 800 metres, Arop had a seasonal best time of 1:43.38. Emmanuel Kipkurui Korir of Kenya won the gold medal with a time of 1:43.26. Jake Wightman of Great Britain won the bronze medal with a time of 1:44.10. Arop reached the podium by 1.09 seconds over Wyclife Kinyamal Kisasy of Kenya, who had a fourth place time of 1:44.47.

Team Canada had five medals overall in the 2022 Diamond League Final. On Wednesday, Sarah Mitton of Liverpool, Nova Scotia won the silver medal in the women’s shot put and Django Lovett of Surrey, British Columbia won the bronze medal in the men’s high jump. The medals for Arop and Brown will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
