Canada wins Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series in Czechia

Team Canada won the gold medal in a Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series event in Prague, Czechia on Saturday. For Canada, it was their third Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series win of 2023, as they previously won in Poitiers, France on June 28, and then in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on July 30. The Canadian team was comprised of Katherine Plouffe and Michelle Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta, Kacie Bosch of Lethbridge, Alberta, and Jamie Scott.

Canada won both of their Pool A games. They beat Czechia 16-13 and Italy 19-9 on Friday. That was followed by wins over Lithuania by a score of 21-17 in the quarterfinals, Spain by a score of 13-10 in the semifinals and then France 20-17 in the final on Saturday.

In Canada’s win over Czechia, Katherine Plouffe led Canada with 10 points and seven rebounds. Katherine Plouffe and Bosch tied for the Canadian lead with two key assists. In Canada’s win over Italy, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with 11 points. Katherine Plouffe led Canada with eight rebounds, and Kacie Bosch led Canada with four key assists. In Canada’s win over Lithuania, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with 11 points, Katherine Plouffe led Canada with five rebounds, and Michelle and Katherine Plouffe led Canada with two key assists each. In Canada’s win over Spain, Katherine Plouffe led Canada with eight points and 10 rebounds. Michelle Plouffe led Canada with four key assists. In Canada’s win over France, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with 15 points and two key assists, and Katherine Plouffe led Canada with eight rebounds.

In the Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series standings, Canada is in fifth place with 475 points. China leads with 840 points. Team Canada also won bronze medals in Bordeaux and Orleans, France. The gold medal for Canada in Prague will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
