Canada wins two silver medals at 2023 Skate America

Team Canada came away with two figure skating silver medals this past weekend in Skate America from Dallas, Texas. The first silver medal came on Saturday in the pairs event, as Lia Pereira of Milton, Ontario, and Trennt Michaud of Belleville, Ontario placed second. Then on Sunday in the ice dance, Marjorie Lajoie of Boucherville, Quebec and Zachary Lagha of Greenfield Park, Quebec also won silver.

In the pairs event, Pereira and Michaud had a total score of 182.59 points. Annika Hocke and Robert Kunkel of Germany won the gold medal with 184.23 points. Chelsea Liu of the United States and Balazs Nagy of the United States won the bronze medal with 177.66 points. Pereira and Michaud reached the podium comfortably by 25.51 points over Valentina Plazas and Maximiliano Fernandez of the United States, who had a fourth place total score of 157.08 points.

In the ice dance, Lajoie and Lagha had 196.99 points. Madison Chock and Evan Bates of the United States won the gold medal with 212.96 points. Evgeniia Lopareva and Geoffrey Brissaud of France won the bronze medal with 193.47 points. Lajoie and Lagha reached the podium by 11.92 points over Caroline Green and Michael Parsons of the United States, who had a fourth place score of 185.07 points. The silver medals for Pereira, Michaud, Lajoie and Lagha will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo.
