Team Canada won the silver medal in team equestrian jumping at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile on Wednesday. The Canadian team comprised of Mario Deslauriers of Venise-en-Quebec, Quebec, Tiffany Foster of Vancouver, British Columbia, Amy Millar of Ottawa, Ontario, and Beth Underhill of Georgetown, Ontario. The United States won the gold medal and Brazil won the bronze medal.
The silver medal for Canada in team equestrian jumping, was one of 10 medals won by Canadian athletes on Wednesday, as the other nine medals were bronze medals. In table tennis, Mo Zhang of Canada shared the bronze medal in women’s singles action with Lily Zhang of the United States, and Eugene Wang of Aurora, Ontario shared the bronze medal in men’s singles action with Marcos Madrid of Mexico. In women’s individual squash, Hollie Naughton of Oakville, Ontario shared the bronze medal with Maria Stefanoni of the United States. In fencing, Canada won three bronze medals. They were Ruien Xiao of Markham, Ontario in the women’s individual epee (shared the medal with Analia Fernandez of Chile), and Fares Arfa of Montreal, Quebec and Shaul Gordon of Richmond, British Columbia both won bonze medals in the men’s individual sabre. In freestyle wrestling, Nishan Randhawa of Abbotsford, Quebec shared the bronze medal in the men’s 97 kilogram division with Anthony Montero of Venezuela, and Adam Thomson of Komoka, Ontario shared the bronze medal in the men’s 125 kilogram division with Catriel Muriel of Argentina. Finally, Kalia Butler of New Westminster, British Columbia placed third in the women’s hammer throw.
Canada now has won 116 medals at the 2023 Pan American Games (35 gold medals, 34 silver medals, and 47 bronze medals). The United States lead with 191 medals and Brazil is in second with 136 medals.
