Team Canada has won the silver medal in the 2024 Olympic women’s beach volleyball tournament at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The Canadian team was comprised of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson of Toronto, Ontario. In the gold medal game, Humana-Paredes and Wilkerson lost the gold medal final to Ana Patricia Ramos and Duda Lisboa of Brazil, 26-24, 12-21, 15-10.
You could make the argument that this was one of the biggest moments in Canadian volleyball history. Never before has Canada been in the championship game of such a prestigious global volleyball event like the Olympic Games. That includes indoor, outdoor, on the court or on the beach.
This is the second time that Canada has won an Olympic medal in beach volleyball. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, John Child and Mark Heese of Toronto won the bronze medal. Child and Heese have a connection to Melissa Humana-Paredes’s father, as Hernan Humana was their coach.
The women’s beach volleyball bronze medalists in Paris were Switzerland. In the bronze medal game, Switzerland beat Australia.
With the silver medal in beach volleyball, Team Canada now has 24 medals, which is 11th overall. They have seven gold medals, six silver medals, and 11 bronze medals. Over the next 48 hours, there are a handful of opportunities where Canada could win more medals.
