Team Canada won the silver medal on Saturday at the 2022 Women’s World Lacrosse Championship in Towson, Maryland. In the gold medal game, Canada lost to the United States by a score of 11-8.
The Canadians finished the tournament with a record of six wins and two losses. Both of Canada’s losses came to the United States. The Americans beat the Canadians 16-11 to open the tournament on June 29.
The second place finish for Canada on Saturday was tied for their best result ever in the history of the tournament. Canada also finished in second place at the 2013 Women’s World Lacrosse Championship in Oshawa and the 2017 Women’s World Lacrosse Championship in Guildford, England.
In other lacrosse news, the National Lacrosse League has presented its annual awards for the 2022 season. Many Canadians received hardware. They include Buffalo Bandits forward Dhane Smith of Kitchener, Ontario (the most valuable player), Bandits goaltender Matt Vinc of St. Cartharines, Ontario (goaltender of the year), Toronto Rock defender Mitch de Snoo of Oshawa, Ontario (defender of the year), Calgary Roughnecks transition player Zach Currier of Peterborough, Ontario (transition player of the year), and New York Riptide forward Jeff Teat of Brampton, Ontario (rookie of the year). Smith set the NLL record this past season for most assists in a single season with 94.
