Team Canada won five medals to close out the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile on Sunday. The Canadian silver medalists came in the sports of squash, bowling and table tennis. The Canadian bronze medalists came in the sports of golf and karate.
In squash, Canada won the silver medal in the women’s team event. The Canadian silver medalists were Hollie Naughton of Oakville, Ontario, Nicole Bunyan of Victoria, British Columbia, and Nikki Todd of Regina, Saskatchewan. The United States won the gold medal and Barbados and Colombia shared the bronze medal.
In bowling, Michel Hupe of Winnipeg, Manitoba won silver in men’s singles. A.J. Johnson of the United States won the gold medal and Marco Moretti of Costa Rica and Cristian Azcona of Puerto Rico shared the bronze medal. In men’s team table tennis, Eugene Wang of Aurora, Ontario, Edward Ly of Montreal, Quebec and Simeon Martin of Montreal, Quebec won silver. Brazil won the gold medal, and Argentina and the United States shared the bronze medal.
In golf, Alena Sharp of Hamilton, Ontario won bronze. Sofia Garcia of Paraguay won gold and Mariajo Uribe of Colombia won silver. In karate, Melissa Bratic of Mississauga, Ontario won bronze in the women’s 68 kilogram division. Barbara Rodrigues of Brazil won the gold medal, Wendy Mosquera of Colombia won the silver medal, and Skylar Lingl of the United States won the other bronze medal.
Canada finishes the Pan American Games with 164 medals (46 gold medals, 55 silver medals, and 63 bronze medals). They are behind the United States with 286 medals, and Brazil with 205 medals. The flag bearers for Canada in the closing ceremonies on Sunday were Phil Wizard of Toronto, Ontario (breakdancing), and Canadian Olympic bronze medalist Katie Vincent of Mississauga, Ontario (canoeing).
