Canada wins gold in women’s 3×3 basketball in World Series event in Montreal

Team Canada won the gold medal on Sunday in a Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series event in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is the fifth time this season that Canada came away with a gold medal. They previously won in Poitiers, France on June 28, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on July 30, Prague, Czech Republic on August 5, and in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada on August 19.

The Canadian team in Montreal comprised of Michelle and Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton, Paige Crozon of Humboldt, Saskatchewan and Kacie Bosch of Lethbridge, Alberta. In all, Canada won five games. They defeated New Zealand 21-8, Poland 21-9 and the United States Under 24 team 15-10 in Pool A play on Saturday. They then beat the United States 13-9 in the semifinals, and the American Under 24 team 21-12 in Sunday’s action.

In Canada’s win over New Zealand, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with eight points, seven rebounds, and seven key assists. In Canada’s win over Poland, Crozon led Canada with 12 points. Michelle and Katherine Plouffe led Canada with six rebounds, and Michelle Plouffe led Canada with six key assists. In Canada’s win over the United States Under 24 team on Saturday, Katherine Plouffe led Canada with seven points. Michelle Plouffe led Canada with 10 rebounds and three key assists. In Canada’s win over the United States on Sunday, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with five points and 13 rebounds. Katherine Plouffe led Canada with two key assists. In Canada’s win over the United States Under 24 team on Sunday, Michelle Plouffe led Canada with 11 points and three key assists, and Katherine Plouffe led Canada with seven rebounds.

In all, Team Canada has won seven medals this season. They won bronze medals in Orleans, France on June 24, and in Bordeaux, France on July 20. Canada is third in the Women’s 3×3 Basketball World Series Standings with 725 points. They are behind China at 1033 points, and Azerbaijan at 831 points. The gold medal for Canada in Montreal will give them confidence as they prepare for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
