Canada wins gold in team eventing at the 2023 Pan American Games

Team Canada won 10 more medals on Sunday at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. Canada won one gold medal, four silver medals, and five bronze medals.

The gold medal came in team eventing, The Canadian gold medalists were Colleen Loach of Sherbrooke, Quebec, Michael Winter of Montreal, Quebec, Karl Slezak of Toronto, Ontario, and Lindsay Traisnel of London, Ontario. In eventing, competitors compete in dressage, cross country, and jumping. The United States won the silver medal and Brazil won the bronze medal.

The Team Canada silver medals came in canoeing and judo. In canoeing, Lois Betteridge of Ottawa, Ontario won the silver medals in the women’s slalom and women’s kayak cross, while Alex Baldoni of Thunder Bay, Ontario won the silver medal in the men’s kayak cross. In judo, Isabelle Harris of Lethbridge, Alberta won the silver medal in the women’s 63 kilograms. Harris lost in the final to Maylin del Toro Carvajal of Cuba.

The Team Canada bronze medals came in canoeing, equestrian, and judo. In canoeing, Mael Rivard of Ottawa won bronze in the men’s kayaking slalom and Lea Baldoni of Thunder Bay, Ontario won bronze in women’s kayaking slalom. Traisnel won bronze in women’s individual eventing equestrian, while Antoine Bouchard of Saguenay, Quebec won bronze in the men’s 73 kilogram judo division, and David Popovici of Montreal, Quebec won bronze in the men’s 81 kilogram judo division.

Canada has now won 98 medals (33 gold medals, 30 silver medals, and 35 bronze medals). The United States lead with 163 medals and Brazil is in second with 102 medals.
