Team Canada won two more gold medals on Monday at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile. The first place finishes came in judo and fencing. Shady El Nahas of Toronto, Ontario won the gold medal in the men’s 100 kilogram division, and Dylan French of Surrey, British Columbia won gold in the men’s epee.
In the men’s 100 kilogram judo division, El Nahas beat Thomas Briceno of Chile in the final. Kayo Santos of Brazil and Francisco Balanta of Colombia shared the bronze medal. In the men’s epee fencing, French beat Pablo Nunez of Chile in the final. Francisco Limardo of Venezuela and Alexandre Camargo of Brazil shared the bronze medal.
Team Canada won five more medals at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile on Monday. In women’s individual foil fencing, Eleanor Harvey of Hamilton, Ontario won the silver medal, and Sanoa Olin of Tofino, British Columbia won the silver medal in the women’s shortboard surfing. In men’s stand up paddleboard surfing, Finn Spencer of Vancouver, British Columbia won the bronze medal, Jessica Guo of Toronto, Ontario won the bronze medal in women’s individual foil fencing, and in mixed doubles table tennis, Eugene Wang of Aurora, Ontario, and Mo Zhang shared the bronze medal.
In the medal standings, Canada now has 105 medals (35 gold medals, 32 silver medals, and 38 bronze medals). The United States lead with 171 medals and Brazil is second with 123 medals.
