Canada wins 15 medals at 2022 World Games in Birmingham

Team Canada won 15 medals at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama, which concluded on Sunday. The World Games are a multi-sport competition that consists of sporting events that do not take place at the Olympic Games. In all, Canada won five gold medals, five silver medals, and five bronze medals during the 10-day event.

Team Canada won gold in men’s and women’s lacrosse, Neilly Ross of Belleville, Ontario (women’s tricks in water skiing), Rhaea Stinn of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan (women’s super heavyweight powerlifting), and Vicky Huang of Toronto, Ontario (women’s 48 kilogram ne-waza Ju-jitsu). In the gold medal games in lacrosse, Canada beat the United States in both contests. On the men’s side, Canada won 23-9, and on the women’s side, Canada won 14-12.

The five Canadian silver medalists were Graham Fach of Guelph, Ontario and Darren Alexander of Windsor, Ontario in men’s doubles bowling, Jaimee Bull of North Bay, Ontario in women’s slalom water skiing, Taryn Grant of Winnipeg, Manitoba in women’s jump water skiing, Regan Gowing of Bourget, Quebec in women’s 48 kilogram Muaythai, and Winnie Cai of Calgary, Alberta  in women’s jianshu and qiangshu in Wushu. The five Canadian bronze medalists were Christopher Perkins of Athens, Ontario in men’s individual compound archery, Fach in men’s singles bowling, Cole McCormick of Crystal Lake, Saskatchewan in men’s slalom water skiing, Michael Sheehan of Toronto in men’s 77 kilogram ne-waza Ju-jitsu and Jason Chen-Leung of Calgary in men’s jianshu and qiangshu in Wushu.
