Canada trounces Finland 11-1 in women’s hockey at 2022 Olympic Winter Games

In a dominant performance by Team Canada, the Canadian women’s hockey team completely clobbered Finland 11-1 at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing on Friday (Saturday in Beijing). This was a huge statement game for the Canadian women’s hockey team because don’t forget, it was not that long ago (in 2019 in fact) that Finland beat Canada 4-2 in the semifinals of the 2019 Women’s World Hockey Championship in Espoo, Finland.

Two Canadians in fact had hat tricks, as Brianne Jenner of Oakville, Ontario, and Sarah Nurse of Hamilton, Ontario each scored thrice. Jenner, who also had an assist, was one two Canadians to have a four-point game, as Natalie Spooner of Scarborough, Ontario had four assists for four points. Canadian captain Marie-Philip Poulin of Beauceville, Quebec meanwhile had three assists, Laura Stacey of Mississauga, Ontario and Sarah Fillier of Georgetown, Ontario each scored twice, Jamie Lee Rattray of Ottawa. Ontario had one goal and one assist for two points, while Ella Shelton of Ingersoll, Ontario. and Ashley Bell of Deloraine, Manitoba each had two assists.

Canada has now outscored their opponents 23-2 after two games. They will next face the Russian Olympic Committee on Sunday. The Russians beat Switzerland 5-2 in their opening game on Thursday.
