Canada reaches semifinals of the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championships

Team Canada is in the semifinals of the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championships in Edmonton, Alberta. On Wednesday, Canada defeated Switzerland 6-3 in the third of four quarterfinal games.

The Canadian star was Kamloops Blazers forward Logan Stankoven of Kamloops, British Columbia. Stankoven, who plays center and right wing, had two goals and one assist for three points. Two other Canadian players had a multi-point game. Barrie Colts center Tyson Foerster of Alliston, Ontario had one goal and one assist for two points, and defenseman Ronan Seeley of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories had two assists.

Three other Canadian players got on the scoresheet. They were Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds defenseman Jack Thompson of Courtice, Ontario, Quebec Remparts center Nathan Gaucher of Longueuil, Quebec, and Windsor Spitfires left winger Will Cuylle of Toronto, Ontario.

Canada will next play the Czech Republic in the semifinals on Friday. The Czechs defeated the United States 4-2 in a surprise result in the fourth of four quarterfinals. The other quarterfinal results had Finland beating Germany 5-2 and Sweden beating Latvia 2-1.

Team Canada forward Mason McTavish of the Hamilton Bulldogs currently leads the 2022 World Junior Hockey Championships in scoring. He has a tournament-high seven goals and 14 points. Joakim Kemmell of Finland has a tournament-high eight assists, and is second in scoring with 11 points.
