Team Canada is in the quarterfinals of the 2024 COPA America. On Saturday at Inter&Co Stadium in Orlando, Florida, Canada tied Chile at 0-0.

Heading into the match, Canada would reach the final eight if they did not lose. Chile needed a win and failed to get the three points.

A major turning point in the Canada/Chile match came in the 27th minute. That is when Chilean midfielder Gabriel Suazo knocked down Canadian midfielder Richie Laryea of Toronto, Ontario from behind. The Canadian star was goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau of Greenfield Park, Quebec, who made three saves.

Canada finished Group A with a record of one win, one loss, and one draw for four points. They were behind Argentina, who finished in first place in the group with nine points, and ahead of Chile, who was at one loss and two draws for two points, and Peru, who was at two losses and one draw for one point.

Canada will next face the winner of Group B in the quarterfinals in Arlington, Texas on July 5. Currently, Venezuela leads Group B with six points.

Canada qualified for the quarterfinals after only scoring one goal. That came in their 1-0 win over Peru on June 25. The Canadian goal scorer in Kansas City was forward Jonathan David of Ottawa, Ontario.
