Canada reaches quarterfinals of 2022 Olympic men’s hockey tournament

Team Canada is in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Olympic men’s hockey tournament. On Tuesday, Canada defeated China 7-2 in one of four first round playoff games.

Canada was led in scoring by Adam Tambelini of Edmonton, Alberta, who had two goals and three assists for five points. One of Tambellini’s two goals came from a penalty shot. Other players on Team Canada who had a multi-point game were Jordan Weal of North Vancouver, British Columbia (two goals and one assist for three points), Maxim Noreau of Montreal, Quebec (three assists), Eric Staal of Thunder Bay, Ontario (one goal and one assist for two points), and Jack McBain of Toronto, Ontario (one goal and one assist). The other Canadian goal scorer was Eric O’Dell of Ottawa, Ontario.

With the win, Canada plays Sweden in the quarterfinal (Wednesday, 6 a.m. MT). The other quarterfinal games have the United States versus Slovakia (Tuesday, 9 p.m. MT), the Russian Olympic Committee versus Denmark (Tuesday, 11 p.m. MT), and Finland versus Switzerland (Wednesday, 1:40 a.m. MT). In the other first round playoff games, Slovakia blanked Germany 4-0, Denmark beat Latvia 3-2, and Switzerland beat the Czech Republic 4-2.

In NHL news from Monday, Stuart Skinner of Edmonton, Alberta recorded a shutout for the Edmonton Oilers on Monday in a 3-0 win over the San Jose Sharks. Meanwhile, Tyler Toffoli of Scarborough, Ontario was traded from the Montreal Canadiens to the Calgary Flames.
