
Team Canada improved to a record of two regulation wins and one loss in extra time at the 2025 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa, Ontario on Sunday. For the second game in the tournament, Team Canada won via a shutout as they blanked Germany 3-0. Canada’s first shutout of the championship came on Boxing Day as they beat Finland 4-0.
In Canada’s shutout win over Germany, it was a strong performance again by Owen Sound Attack goaltender Carter George of Thunder Bay, Ontario. The Los Angeles Kings’s second round pick in the 2024 National Hockey League Entry Draft made 25 saves. He had nine saves in the first period, nine saves in the second period, and seven saves in the third period.
Team Canada scored one goal in the first period and two goals in the third period. The Canadian goal scorers were London Knights defenseman Oliver Bonk of Ottawa, Ontario (drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers), Kelowna Rockets defenseman Caden Price of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (drafted by the Seattle Kraken), and Rimouski Oceanic right winger Mathieu Cataford of Chateauguay, Quebec (drafted by the Vegas Golden Knights).
Team Canada closes out Group A play on Tuesday against the United States. They are currently tied for first place with the Americans with seven points.
