Canada blanks Australia and Japan at 2022 Little League World Series

Team Canada is off to a great start at the 2022 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. On Friday, Canada beat Japan 6-0 to improve to a record of two wins and zero losses. The Canadians initially beat Australia 7-0 in their first game of the tournament on Wednesday. Team Canada is represented this year by Little Mountain Little League in Vancouver, British Columbia.

In Canada’s win over Japan, Canada scored all six of their runs in the sixth inning. The big Canadian hit was a bases loaded RBI double by Benjamin Dartnell. Meanwhile, starting pitcher Jaxon Mayervich struck out 10 batters.

In Canada’s win over Australia, Canada scored one run in the second and fifth innings, three runs in the fourth inning and two runs in the sixth inning. Mayervich collected four hits, while Dartnell, the starting pitcher, was very effective on the mound. He struck out eight batters and only gave up two hits in 3 2/3 innings of work.

Canada will next play Mexico on Monday. Mexico won their opening game as they beat Puerto Rico 6-1. There are 10 teams in the International Bracket. Other nations represented are Chinese Taipei, Curacao, Italy, Nicaragua, and Panama. There are also 10 teams represented in the United States Division.
