Team Canada has improved to a record of seven wins and three losses in the 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League action in Hong Kong. On Thursday, Canada defeated Belgium 10-25, 25-21, 25-17, 27-25. It was a nice bounce back win for Team Canada after a sloppy first set. Canadian head coach Giovanni Guidetti actually apologized to Canadians on how the Canadian team started the match.
Three players on Team Canada reached double digits in scoring. Opposite Kiera Van Ryk of New Westminster, British Columbia once again led Canada in points as she had 22 points (17 attack points, four block points and one ace). Meanwhile, outside hitter Andrea Mitrovic of Mississauga, Ontario had 10 points (eight attack points, one block point and one ace), and captain and middle blocker Emily Maglio had 10 points (eight attack points and two block points). Meanwhile, setter Brie Fransen of Langley, British Columbia led Canada with two aces.
With the win over Belgium, Canada improved to a record of seven wins and three losses for 20 points. Two of Canada’s wins came in five sets, so they did not get the full three points. They also got a point from a five set loss. Canada is in fourth place in the Preliminary Round. They only trail Brazil (9-1), the United States (9-2), and Italy (8-2). Canada plays Italy in Hong Kong on Saturday and the Dominican Republic (2-8) on Sunday. The top eight teams make the quarterfinals. However, it is only the top seven teams if the host China is not part of the top eight.
