
Team Canada beat Australia in three different sports on Tuesday. They were men’s basketball, women’s 3×3 basketball and women’s rugby sevens.
In men’s basketball, Canada improved to a record of two wins and zero losses following a 93-83 win. RJ Barrett of the Toronto Raptors led Canada in scoring with 24 points. Canada next plays Spain on August 2.
In women’s rugby sevens, Canada reached the final with a 21-12 semifinal victory over Australia. Three Canadians posted a try as Charity Williams of Toronto, Ontario, Asia Hogan-Rochester of Toronto, and Piper Logan of Calgary, Alberta all picked up notable scores. Canada went on to face New Zealand and lost 19-12 in the gold medal game. It was the best ever placement for Canada ever in the history of the Rugby Sevens Olympic tournament for the men or women. Canada now has six medals at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris (two gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals), and are in ninth place in the overall standings.
Finally. in women’s 3×3 basketball, Canada beat Australia convincingly 22-14. to open the tournament. Katherine Plouffe of Edmonton, Alberta led Canada with 10 points. Michelle Plouffe of Edmonton led Canada with five rebounds and two key assists. The Canadians dominated the opening minutes and will next play on Wednesday against China.
