
Minnesota Wild goaltender Cam Talbot of Caledonia, Ontario was named the National Hockey League first star of the week for the week from March 21-27, 2022. Ironically, Talbot was honoured the same week the Wild acquired Canadian Olympic gold medalist Marc-Andre Fleury of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec at the NHL trade deadline. Fleury won a gold medal for Canada in men’s hockey at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
Talbot has a record of three wins and zero losses with a stingy goals against average of 1.33. He also made 94 saves in 98 shot attempts during the week for a save percentage of .959.
To begin the week, Talbot made 28 saves in a 3-0 Wild win over the Vegas Golden Knights on March 21. For Talbot, it was his second shutout of the season, as he also blanked the Chicago Blackhawks on February 2 by a score of 5-0. Talbot then made 26 saves in a 3-2 Wild overtime win over the Vancouver Canucks on March 24, and then tied a season high with 40 saves in a 3-2 Wild overtime win over the Colorado Avalanche. It was the second time this season that Talbot has had 40 saves in a game, as he also made 40 saves in a 3-2 Wild win over the New Jersey Devils on November 24.
