According to Andrew Jeffrey of CBC News on Friday, McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta will host the 113th Grey Cup in 2026. This will be the sixth time the Grey Cup has been played in Calgary, as they previously hosted the game in 1975, 1993, 2000, 2009 and 2019.
The fact that McMahon Stadium is hosting the Canadian Football League’s biggest game two years from now could be considered a surprise to some. According to Jeffrey, when Calgary hosted the game in 2019, CFL Commissioner Randy Ambrosie stated, McMahon Stadium was “not up to the standards of modern sport.”
The Grey Cup will be at BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, British Columbia in 2024, and at Princess Auto Stadium in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 2025. BC Place was built in 1983 and renovated in 2011. Princess Auto Stadium was built in 2013. McMahon Stadium was built in 1960.
The announcement of the 2026 Grey Cup was made a day before the 2024 Western Final and 2024 Eastern Final are to be played. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are hosting the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Western Final, and the Montreal Alouettes are hosting the Toronto Argonauts in the Eastern Final.
On Saturday, the national men’s soccer championship will take place in Calgary. Calgary’s ATCO Field at Spruce Meadows will be the host venue of the Canadian Premier League final between Cavalry FC and Hamilton’s Forge FC.
