Brooke Henderson tied for the lead at 2020 ANA Inspiration

Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario is tied for the lead at the 2020 ANA Inspiration from Rancho Mirage, California on Saturday. The event has significance as it is the second major on the women’s golf calendar in 2020.

Henderson, who won the 2016 Women’s PGA Championship, has a score of -12 in southern California after 54 holes. She is tied for the lead with Nelly Korda of Bradenton, Florida.

There are four more golfers currently in contention. Lexi Thompson of Coral Springs, Florida, Katherine Kirk of Australia, and Mirim Lee of South Korea are tied or third place, two strokes back at -10. Meanwhile, Carlota Ciganda of Spain is all alone in sixth place at -9, and three strokes back. Of the contenders, Thompson is the only other major winner, as she won the 2014 ANA Inspiration.

In round three, Henderson did the majority of her damage on the front nine. She had a stretch of golf where she went eagle, par, birdie, par, birdie, birdie. All of a sudden, Henderson was into double figures and in contention with the leaders. She eagled the second hole, and then had birdies on the fourth, sixth, seventh, ninth, 11th and 16th holes. Henderson also registered a bogey on the 13th hole. Her round of -7 on Saturday was the best score of the day.

Henderson is one of two Canadians to have made the cut at Rancho Mirage. The other was Alena Sharp of Hamilton, Ontario, who is currently tied for 62nd place at +3.
