Brianne Jenner and Emerance Maschmeyer shine in Ottawa win over Minnesota

Two Canadian Olympic gold medalists had games to remember on Saturday night for Ottawa in Professional Women’s Hockey League action. Brianne Jenner, who won the gold medal for Canada at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi and the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing, recorded her first career PWHL hat trick, while Canadian Olympic gold medalist Emerance Maschmeyer of Bruderheim, Alberta recorded her second PWHL shutout in the same game as Ottawa blanked Minnesota 4-0.

Jenner of Oakville, Ontario, scored one goal in each period. She opened the scoring at 17:14 of the first period with a game-winning unassisted goal, then scored from Canadian Olympic gold medalist Emily Clark of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to put Canada up 2-0 at 4:07 of the second period, and then scored from Daryl Watts of Toronto, Ontario and Tereza Vanisova to close out the scoring with four minutes and 21 seconds left in the third period. Maschmeyer meanwhile made 35 saves. She made 10 saves in the first period, 12 saves in the second period, and 13 saves in the third period.

In 2024, Jenner has eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points in 20 games. She is a +4 with four penalty minutes, 111 faceoff wins, one power-play goal, two game-winning goals, and 62 shots on goal. The power-play goal came on March 10 in a 4-2 Ottawa win over Montreal. Jenner scored from Katerina Mrazova and Aneta Tejralova. The other game-winning goal came in a 3-1 Ottawa win over Toronto on January 23. Jenner scored her very first PWHL goal from Amanda Boulier with eight minutes left in the first period which put Ottawa up 2-0 at the time.

Maschmeyer now has a record of eight wins, six regulation losses, and four losses in extra time. She has a goals against average of 2.20 and a save percentage of .918. Maschmeyer’s other shutout came in a 3-0 Ottawa win over New York on March 20. Maschmeyer and Clark won a gold medal for Canada at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

With the win, Ottawa is in fourth place in the PWHL with 30 points. They have a record of eight wins, six regulation losses and six losses in extra time. Ottawa leads Boston by two points for the final playoff spot.

In other PWHL news on Saturday, Toronto clinched a playoff spot with a 3-2 overtime win over Montreal. A total of 21, 105 spectators were in attendance at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec. That set a PWHL attendance record.
