
Boston Bruins left winger Brad Marchand of Halifax, Nova Scotia registered his sixth career National Hockey League hat trick on Sunday. He accomplished the feat in a 3-1 Bruins win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at the Toronto Dominion Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.
All of Marchand’s goals came in the third period in a span of five minutes and 50 seconds. Marchand first scored at 1:56 of the third period to tie the game at one from Danton Heinen of Langley, British Columbia and Charlie Coyle. He then scored the game-winning goal at 5:37 of the third period on the power play from Charlie McAvoy and James van Riemsdyk. Then Marchand scored an insurance marker at 7:46 of the third period on the power play from Pavel Zacha and McAvoy to close out the scoring.
Marchand’s six hat tricks have come with the Bruins. The previous five came on December 23, 2011 in an 8-0 Bruins win over the Florida Panthers, on March 13, 2017 in a 6-3 Bruins win over the Vancouver Canucks, on March 6, 2018, in a 6-5 Bruins win over the Detroit Red Wings, on April 3, 2021, in a 7-5 Bruins win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, and on January 12, 2022, in a 5-1 Bruins win over the Montreal Canadiens.
